Health Ministry Seizes Rm12.4m Worth Of Medicine At KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR - A total of 181 types of medicine, worth RM12.4 million, were seized in a raid at a godown at the International Hub, KLIA, Sepang last month.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the raid was conducted by the Health Ministry’s Pharmaceutical Service Division and the Selangor Pharmaceutical Enforcement branch on June 6.

The raid was conducted after finding that the godown was used to store and package unregistered medicines for international markets, he said in a statement here today.

The seized medicines comprised mostly of generic medicine for treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), like sildenafii and tadalafil.

There were also generic medicines for high blood pressure, cholesterol and antibiotics.

He said the medicines were distributed to clients by syndicates, involving companies, operating in India, Singapore and Malaysia.

The syndicate in Malaysia is believed to have been operating since March this year.

“Orders for the medicines are made online with a domain based in London. These medicines are sent by manufacturers in India through orders made by a company in Singapore.

“Information on the customers, as well as address of delivery, mostly in the United States of America (US), are sent by a company in India to agents in Malaysia through email,” he added.

He said the medicines were sent to customers in the US via parcels declared as “health supplements”.
