KUCHING - Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) received some equipment for its ward and clinic from The Pillar Foundation (TPF) yesterday.
Among the equipment which were donated were cardiac tables and a hospital bed for the surgical extended ward, one television and DVD player for the specialist clinic which will be used to teach patients about breast cancer as well as a nebuliser machine.
TPF president Dato’ Seri Paduka Aisah Mahmud was on hand to present the equipment to SGH nursing supervisor Sister Jindim who received them on behalf of the hospital.
“Hospitals in Malaysia such as SGH are still short of many equipment. Doctors and nurses here have to make do with what they have or even resort to borrowing equipment from other wards,” said Aisah.
“In view of this, TPF is pleased to lend a helping hand wherever possible and this time we manage to get friends of TPF to chip in where they could and I would like to thank them for their generosity,” she added.
Also present during the handing over was SGH deputy director (clinical) Dr Norinawaty Abang Daud. TPF is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) which aims to assist poor and unfortunate urban and rural communities through outreach programmes and activities inclusive of but not limited to self-development, economic development, capacity building and sustainable self-help.
It also aims to provide opportunities and access to poor and unfortunate individuals overlooked by governmental agencies and other non-governmental bodies as well as to foster and educate the public on aspects of social work, humanitarianism, volunteerism and aspects of humanitarian assistance, disaster relief management and risk reduction.
