Unimas University Hospital Proposed

KUCHING - A suggestion has been made for the government to build a university hospital dedicated to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).

Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail (BN-Bukit Kota) believed that this would help facilitate the training for the university’s Medical Faculty students.

“It has been quite a while that this faculty has been around but it is still using Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and to an extent, the Sibu Hospital and Miri Hospital, for training.

“A university hospital will help facilitate their (medical students) training and studies, such as how Uniza (Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin) in Terengganu has its own hospital even though its medical faculty is far younger than that of Unimas,” Abdul Rahman said in his 2015 Budget debate speech.

In addition, he also proposed for the government to re-examine electricity tariffs and have them lowered, especially for domestic users.

“The government has not examined the tariffs in a long time, and by lowering them, the people’s burden will be lessened. I am also suggesting that domestic users whose electricity bills are less than RM100 be exempted from payment.”

Touching on his constituency, Abdul Rahman urged relevant authorities to carry out repair works on Jalan Buangsiul, which was hit by a landslide recently.

“The landslide caused the road to be closed off, and (occupants of) two houses had to be evacuated due to safety issues. I strongly urge for the relevant authorities to carry out repair works as the road is important to many villages along it.

“I also hope that the government would extend a helping hand to the owners of the two houses involved,” he said.

On another subject, Abdul Rahman expressed his hope for the Housing Ministry to help solve the issue of unsold housing units in the Ranggau residential area.

“Due to unsuitable design, the ministry had decided to demolish and rebuild the project, which I hope will be carried out as soon as possible.

“I also hope that the ministry would develop a Affordable Housing Scheme area at Jalan Pandaruan, Limbang, owned by the Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC),” he said, adding that he would also want the government to implement Village Enlargement Scheme projects in Kampung Seberang, Kampung Malagangai and Kampung Limpaki.
