Fertility Focus (Warwick, UK) has launched the Ovusense Fertility Monitor in the US. Ovusense provides real time information to the user regarding the onset of ovulation and the exact ovulation date just three days after ovulation occurs.

The Ovusense device has a sensor (with an industrially calibrated thermistor) that is placed in the vagina overnight to measure and record the internal temperature every 5 minutes. The data is then processed using, what company claims, a unique algorithm to accurately  predict the fertile period in the following cycle. The device not only identifies the timing of ovulation, but can also detect its absence. The company states that this is the most accurate fertility detector on the market due to its 99% sensitivity and 99% accuracy. The device has a 94.5% match against ultrasound, which is the conventional but expensive and impractical method to measure fertility. Patients using the device in clinical trials found it to be hygienic, easy and comfortable to use and easy to understand.
