The background to the invention and development of Microcuff* Endotracheal Tube was the initial cooperation with Microcuff GmbH. The development brought together the technology and experience of Unomedical in producing endotracheal tube over 20 years and the advanced micro-thin polyurethane cuff designed by Microcuff.

A complex series of trials, from making prototypes to validations were carried out since year 2002.  This work defined the design parameters necessary to reconcile the needs between safety, reliability and exploring the limits for actual use.   In early 2004, the final version was developed and manufactured by Unomedical for Microcuff.  Experience and lessons gained from the hospitals have contributed to creating a better product,  in terms of safety and effectiveness. 

In Oct 2005, Kimberly-Clark Corporation (KCC) acquired Microcuff GmbH, and Unomedical continued the partnership on developing products for the anesthesia range with micro-thin polyurethane cuff.  Following this innovative construction, which was successfully completed early this year, Unomedical commenced commercial supply of Microcuff* Endotracheal Tube for KCC.  The tube supersedes conventional PVC-cuffs through its advanced microthin-walled cuffs made from polyurethane.  The product is purpose-designed to give protection against leakage and aspiration of secretions.  The cuff infoldings, capillary and adhesive forces trap the secretions and prevent their free passage.  Microthin-walled cuff is also designed to provide superior sealing at lower cuff-filling pressures.  Other benefits of the tube includes absence of air leakages and cuff herniation. The tube is extremely safe, smooth and efficient for use in Anesthesia and Intensive Care therapies.   

KCC launched the Microcuff* Endotracheal Tube on November 21, 2006 world-wide under their own brand - KIMBERLY-CLARK* MICROCUFF*.  Through the excellent distribution platform of KCC in medical device supplies, Unomedical as a manufacturer serves to deliver a high quality product which meets the stringent expectations of health care workers world-wide.
