Arrival of the Toshiba's ground breaking Aquilion ONE Dynamic Volume CT System in Peninsula Malaysia

Toshiba Medical Systems - today announces pending arrival of the first Toshiba’s Aquilion ONE dynamic volume CT System in Peninsula Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 200, with this, Malaysian will have accesses to the new frontier of CT imaging, joining the prestigious Charité University Hospital in Berlin Germany; Leiden University Medical Centre in Leiden The Netherlands; University Hospital of Graz in Austria; Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; in Baltimore USA, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston USA; Fujita Health University Japan and others centers of medical excellence around the world.

Scans an entire organ in a single rotation

Toshiba’s Aquilion ONE is the world’s first dynamic volume CT system, utilizes 320 ultra-high resolution detector rows (0.5 mm in width) to image an entire organ in a single gantry rotation. With other 64-slice, 128-slice CT systems, it takes an average of 7 to 10 rotations to image a human heart, and 7 rotations for the brain as they can only capture a portion of an organ with each pass and ultimately requires physicians to “stitch together” multiple scans of an organ to get a full image. As such Toshiba’s Aquilion ONE significantly reduces multiple exposures to radiation and exam time.

Real Time 4D clinical video of entire organ

Toshiba’s Aquilion ONE, is able to produce a 4D clinical video showing up to 16 cm of anatomical coverage, which can capture the entire brain or heart, showing its movement and blood flow. Medical professionals can view crucial information such as blood flow (arterial and venous) and function in the heart, brain, and other parts of the body.

This is a paradigm shift in imaging technology, allowing functional images of the scanned organ(s) to be viewed in real-time. Whole organ dynamic volume analysis was previously unavailable in previous CT it is a quantum leap in CT imaging accuracy.

The Aquilion ONE provides a single, comprehensive exam that potentially replaces   a variety of duplicative and invasive procedures. It is versatile and has the ability to help specialist diagnose disease fast, it will benefit any top flight imaging department allowing detection and treatment of life-threatening conditions, including cancer, heart disease, stroke and other neurovascular conditions.

Toshiba’s Aquilion ONE Honoured

Aquilion ONE has been named a winner in the Medical Design Excellence Awards, a program organized by Canon Communications and sponsored by the company's Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry magazine. The world’s first dynamic volume CT scanner is a winner in the Radiology and Electromechanical Device category. (For more information about Canon Communications, visit www.cancom.com)

Since its introduction in November 2007, the Aquilion ONE has also been named Popular Science magazine’s “Best of What’s New 2008 – Personal Health Category, and Frost & Sullivan’s Global CT Systems Product Differentiation Innovation Award 2007.
