Bioventus (Durham, N.C.) is making available in the U.S. its latest EXOGEN Ultrasound Bone Healing system. Already available in Europe, Canada, and Australia, the EXOGEN device is meant to be prescribed when a bone fracture is not showing signs of adequate healing. The system is used by patients in the comfort of their homes, which delivers low energy pulsed ultrasound to the fracture, shaking it up a bit and promoting natural growth.

The latest version of the device includes a treatment calendar, as well as a history of when therapy was applied. This allows docs to keep an eye on patients’ compliance with therapy and to know whether it is not helping or the patient simply forgets to use it. To further help patients to keep up with the treatment schedule, the EXOGEN device has a matching iOS/Android app that can issue reminders and also includes videos on how to use the system. Comparing the EXOGEN to the previous version of the product, it is now splash-proof and has a color LCD screen.
