Carefusion Releases New Line Of Micro-laparoscopic Instruments

CareFusion has released its new MicroLap micro-laparoscopic set of surgical instruments. The instruments, manufactured by Gimmi GmbH (Tuttlingen, Germany), include access devices, scopes, hand instruments, and accessories. The devices are as small as 2.7mm in diameter, resulting in an incision scar about half the size of standard laparoscopic instruments. The company claims that in many cases there will be no need to suture the incision and that the scar will be nearly invisible.

The hand-controlled instruments include graspers, dissectors, scissors, and needle holders, all made of a unique ceramic titanium alloy. The alloy provides MicroLap instruments the structural strength comparable to standard 5mm laparoscopic instruments. Additionally, there are electrosurgical, suction, and irrigation tools in the set, as well as scopes in 2.7mm and 2.9mm sizes that feature variable lens angles.
