MISFIT Beddit Sleep Monitor With Smart Alarm Announced

Last year we reported on a new sleep tracker called Beddit that was designed to be completely unobtrusive, yet highly capable at monitoring various physiologic aspects of sleep. Today Misfit, the company behind the well designed Shine activity tracker, has announced that it’s making the Beddit Sleep Monitor available for sale and that it conveniently interfaces with the Misfit smartphone app. Unlike other trackers that monitor sleep through detection of motion, the technology within the Beddit actually detects the sleeper’s heart rate and breathing, in addition to snoring, movement, and sound in the room.

The Beddit sensor is placed on top of the mattress and below the sheets, near the chest level of the sleeper. It’s paper thin and the company claims you won’t even notice it being there while sleeping. At night, the technology recognizes sleeping cycles by interpreting the data received from the sensor unit, and a Smart Alarm can be set to gently wake you up when you’re in a light sleeping stage. Once up, you can review the night’s sleep using the app, which will display things like time to fall asleep, the quality of sleep throughout the night, and will actually be honest with you about your snoring.
