Nicotine patches have helped a lot of people to quit smoking, but they are not terribly well targeted to people’s cravings because they provide a steady stream of nicotine rather than supplying it when needed. A company called Chrono Therapeutics has developed a device that can inject doses of nicotine in a variety of ways, whether in regular doses or when the wearer has cravings.

The SmartStop consists of the actual device and replacement cartridges that carry the nicotine. It’s able to proactively address common situations when smokers have the strongest cravings, such as in the morning and after meals, and deliver nicotine before cravings kick in. The device can interface with smartphones and tablets via Bluetooth wireless connectivity, providing real time view at how much nicotine has been consumed and to control the drug pump.
