Sense, A Sleep Tracker And An Intelligent Alarm

Hello, a San Francisco, CA-based company, is developing a sleep tracker that does not have to be worn by the user. The Sense sleep tracking system consists of the spherical Sense device that sits on a night stand, a discreet sleep tracking sensor called Sleep Pill that clips to a pillow, and a mobile app that integrates the spherical device with the Sleep Pill. Sensors within the Sense device monitor the amount of noise in a bedroom, as well as the amount of light, temperature and humidity. The device also includes a particulate sensor that monitors floating particles in the room that could potentially disrupt sleep.

The Sleep Pill that clips to the pillow monitors the user’s movements and helps determine the quality of sleep. The Sleep Pill consists of a 6-axis accelerometer and gyroscope in order to pick up even the slightest of motions during the night. The data from the Sleep Pill is sent over wirelessly to the Sense through Bluetooth Low Energy and ANT. The Sleep Pill is water proof and would not be destroyed even if it went into the washing machine along with the pillow cover. It also does not need any charging or battery replacement for a year. The mobile app uses the data from the Sense and the Sleep Pill to compute a sleep score. Sleep variables that promote good sleep result in a high sleep score and vice versa. The Sense system also has a speaker that can be used to play white noise or other sleep facilitating noises. There is also an intelligent alarm in the Sense that wakes up the user at an optimal time depending on the data from the sensors.

Hello is currently running a very successful Kickstarter campaign for Sense. The campaign has already far exceeded the initial goal of $100,000 by bringing in more than a million dollars within two weeks.
