Hansen Medical has received the final clearance necessary from the FDA to introduce the Magellan Transport System for its Magellan robotic arm. The device allows a single clinician to move the robotic arm, which is used for intravascular navigation and placement of tools, between different cath labs. The hope is that a single robotic system can be shared by more than one doctor, allowing a hospital to get more use out of the investment while allowing a greater variety of procedures to be completed in one facility.
The Transport System has a hydraulic lift pedal which helps to level the robotic arm with the surgical table, lockable wheels, and adjustable legs. A single person can handle operating the device, by the company will have its own people manage that part in the initial stages of releasing the product.
