Philips Respironics Launches a Better Fitting Face Mask with Gel Cushion for Sleep Apnea Patients

Philips Respironics (Murrysville, PA), a unit of Royal Philips, has launched a smaller, lighter and more comfortable full face mask called Amara with a gel cushion for patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea. The Amara mask has a unique modular design with a “one click” assembly that enables easy disassembling and reassembling of the gel cushion and mask frame for cleaning and replacement. The device is advertised as having 60% fewer parts than competing technologies even with the silicone or gel cushions in place.

The Amara face mask with the new gel option reduces pressure points through the unique cushion design and the fine glide forehead adjuster allows for ideal fine tuning and fit.  Amara provides physicians and patients with a range of options as the device comes in four different sizes that fit more than 95% of faces. The device boasts of a minimalist and less intimidating design with the ability to operate it with just one hand. The Amara face mask is connected to a 360 degree rotating elbow that has quiet exhalation micro ports and a quick release swivel.

The simple design along with the light weight, small footprint and improved fit via the gel cushion promises to make sleeping a lot more restful for patients who need continuous positive airway pressure.
