SESTO System Powers Up Any Hospital Bed

Portable hospital beds require quite a bit of handling by staff when moving patients from room to room, including someone pushing from the back, a person steering it in the front, and even others who watch the IV lines and make sure the patient doesn’t roll over the rail guards. This makes for a large procession within the often narrow confines of hospital halls. To help reduce the number of staff needed to move the bed, a collaboration between National University of Singapore and HOPE Technik, a Singaporean firm, has developed the SESTO motorized bed system that requires only one person to drive.

The SESTO system attaches to just about any existing hospital bed and includes two sets of motorized wheels that can turn to move the bed in any direction. The operator stands on a platform at the back of the bed and uses a controller to guide the bed.
