Basis Launches Body IQ Technology for Basis B1 Fitness Tracker

Basis (San Francisco, CA), a maker of fitness tracking devices, has launched new software and firmware technology called Body IQ to significantly improve the tracking capabilities of its Basis B1 wrist monitor. Body IQ technology enables the Basis B1 to track user’s activities in real time and displays the continuously monitored fitness data. The new technology also enables the wrist band to distinguish between a stroll and a jog, and can immediately detect when the user starts riding a bike. The user does not have to manually enter the type of activity being performed or input any caloric data into the wrist monitor. This ability to automatically detect the type of activity being performed and measure calories burned makes the Basis B1 one of the most advanced wrist monitors on the market.

Other popular fitness trackers like the Fitbit Force or the Nike Fuelband SE merely track the number of steps taken and require manual input for activities that are not measured in steps, such as riding a bike. The Basis B1 with Body IQ technology is also advertised as being able to automatically detect when the user falls asleep or wakes up.

The Basis B1 band with Body IQ technology also allows to obtain a summary of the exercise performance through a dashboard on a computer or a smartphone. On the dashboard, users are able to see not only their calories burned and exertion levels, but also able to track and trend perspiration and skin temperature levels during periods of exercise. The new technology also introduces two new “habits” called Run Club and Let’s Ride Club that provide one’s daily exercise goals, which are automatically updated on a weekly basis to help stay continuously motivated. Users are rewarded for achieving the goals through points that could be used to start more challenging “habits”.

The Basis B1 is currently available on the market for $199.
