Software update expands therapeutic options available for intensive care ventilation and simplifies workflows.
Lübeck – New software (SW) 2.n with additional therapeutic options is now available for the Evita Infinity V500: Thanks to the variable pressure support (VariablePS), physicians and nursing staff are even better able to adjust ventilation to meet the needs of their patients. An improved version of the SmartCare/PS application also provides enhanced knowledge-based weaning to gradually get patients used to breathing on their own. The new Smart Pulmonary View application provides additional support for the clinical staff. The visual display of the lung function informs at a glance about the status of the organ. A new RFID (radio frequency identification) function reduces the configuration work needed for certain RFID-capable Dräger ventilators: Ventilation configurations can be transferred between these devices with RFID.
Spontaneous breaths are subject to natural changes. The Variable Pressure Support option responds to these minute fluctuations of spontaneous breathing by varying the pressure support and thereby varying the tidal volume as well. Study data has shown that this can reduce the risk of lung damage.1 In addition to expanded therapeutic options, the software update with the Smart Pulmonary View application also offers simplified information options for the clinical staff. A lung symbol visualizes lung compliance changes and airway resistance in real-time. Once the patient is stable and requires less respiratory support, the SmartCare/ PS weaning function provides automated, knowledge-based weaning. Studies have revealed that this option makes it possible to reduce the ventilation period by up to 33 percent and the weaning time by up to 40 percent.2 The software version 2.n has specific individual weaning parameters than can be configured to make the weaning mode even more flexible to use.
Wireless process optimization
However, the Evita Infinity V500 is not only a ventilator with modern therapeutic functions, but also a component of the integrated Infinity Acute Care System concept. This patient supply system optimizes clinical processes and workflows. Upon request, Dräger also provides additional components equipped with an RFID chip that are automatically detected by the device when being connected. This means the medical device is able to automate the configuration of peripherals and monitor compliance with replacement intervals. The "Transfer of Ventilation Settings" function for ventilation tubes is one innovation in the field of RFID: The RFID chip on the tube saves the ventilation parameters of a patient. When moving the tube to another suitable ventilator, the parameters can be applied without any manual reconfiguration. It is also possible to use a USB flash drive with the Evita Infinity V500 to transfer patient-related screen, therapy, and alarm settings to another intensive care ventilator of the same type.
