Diabeto to Sync Glucometers with Smartphones

Most glucometers that people with diabetes use today are pretty dumb. They display the latest readings and if you’re lucky there’s some charting capabilities as well. On the other hand there’s a myriad of apps that provide detailed tracking of glucose levels, dietary intake, and physical activity. The trick is transferring the data from the glucometer to the smartphone for in-depth analysis. Now there’s a new device that will soon be released that makes it easy to wirelessly connect many existing glucometers to smartphones.

The Diabeto plugs into the jack found on any of 25 available glucometers and is paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth. Once a reading is taken, you simply start the Diabeto app and the readings automatically show up on the phone. The app provides all sort of charting and there’s also a web application where readings can be analyzed further. The team behind the Diabeto is currently raising funds on Indiegogo and for $49 you can preorder your own Diabeto that is slated to be shipped in September.
