Eye2TV Dongle Optimizes Video for Color Blind People

Spectral Edge, a spin-out company of the University of East Anglia, is making available its Eye2TV device for color blind people. It plugs into the HDMI port of your TV and has an HDMI input port of its own. Any video source connected via this plug will then be automatically color corrected to help color blind watchers have a more vivid experience.

The technology relies on mathematical perception models that were originally developed at the University of East Anglia to work with static photos and graphics. Thanks to tiny modern graphic processing chips, this technique now works with video. Conveniently for the whole family, people with normal color vision don’t really see much difference in the corrected video, allowing everyone to watch the same screen together.

The Eye2TV device can be pre-ordered via Kickstarter with shipments planned for March of next year.
