Welch Allyn Introduces Hassle-Free LED Replacement Lamps for Physical Assessment Instruments

New lamps feature patented SureColor™ technology, provide the familiarity of halogen illumination with the performance benefits of LEDs

Welch Allyn, a leading global manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today introduced light-emitting diode (LED) replacement lamps for its most popular otoscopes and ophthalmoscopes. The LED replacement lamps are tested to 30 times longer life than traditional halogen lamps and enable three times the examination time per single charge when used with Welch Allyn rechargeable handles. Welch Allyn LED lamp technology preserves the familiar feel of halogen lamps while virtually eliminating the need for replacement.

The efficiency of LED lamps also results in lower temperature output which may increase comfort for both the patient and the caregiver. Welch Allyn LED lamps feature patented new SureColor technology, which provides consistent color output while light intensity is lowered to improve the view or increase patient comfort.

Cindy Kuiper, director of physical exam products North America, said "We are excited to offer caregivers our new LED replacement lamps and the opportunity to become more energy- and cost-efficient in their practices. The LED also removes the nuisance of having to deal with burned out lamps when trying to complete a physical exam. But the SureColor technology is what we’re most excited about. It allows the color of the light to remain the same even as the light intensity is dimmed, which is something practitioners will appreciate during an ophthalmic exam."

The replaceable LED lamps will be available for use with the four most popular core diagnostic device platforms Welch Allyn offers—traditional otoscopes, MacroViewotoscopes, traditional ophthalmoscopes, and PanOpticophthalmoscopes. LED lamps are available as simple upgrade kits, providing a lamp, lamp removal tool and step-by-step instructions for replacement in a matter of seconds.

"The introduction of LED replacement lamps as a complement to our existing halogen lamp offering reaffirms our commitment to deliver new technologies that benefit the delivery of care," added Kuiper. "It aligns with our strategic decision to focus on medical diagnostics, and we feel it is our responsibility to provide products that help control and reduce operating costs."
