On November 5th, the IDS Critical Care team held a dinner lecture featuring Dr Catheryn Murphy at PARKROYAL on Pickering Hotel to celebrate the launch of Smith Medical’s Jelco IntuitIV Safety IV Cannula. The lecture, advocating safer hospitals through a greater emphasis on safety products, was one of several events that idsMED Singapore has held this year with the goal of supporting continual medical education and exposure to the latest advancements in the healthcare industry.
Clinicial and patient safety is a priority for IDS, and our Critical Care team sought only the best to speak on the topic. Dr Murphy is the first non-North American President of APIC, the world’s largest infection preventional association, as well as the only infection preventionist to be jointly certified by the CBIC and the Australian College of Infection Control and Prevention. Before leaving the clinical setting to focus on global infection prevention activity as an independent consultant, Dr Murphy was a senior member of the Global Coast District Health Service’s Infection Control Team, and also worked for both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.
Two hundred people, with representatives from a wide variety of specialties including Infection control, Quality assurance, Operating Room, ICU, Emergency and Anesthesiology, attended Dr Murphy’s lecture, titled “How Safety Engineered Medical Devices Make Healthcare Safer”. Nurses were able to receive CNE points for their attendance.
Before the speech, attendees enjoyed canapés from the PARKROYAL on Pickering Hotel’s Lime Restaurant while learning more about the new Jelco IntuitiV passive safety IV Cannula at six hands-on stations.
Jelco’s IntuitIV offers complete 360 degree needle tip encapsulation, with a triple layer metal and plastic protection, while requiring no change in technique from non-safety IV cannulas. It comes in both straight, and winged and ported, in a full range of sizes.
At 1900hrs, the dinner lecture was opened by Ms Sally Ng, Managing Director of IDS Singapore, followed by Dr Murphy’s insightful lecture. After the lecture, participants were treated to a four course western dinner.
The event came to an official close at 2230hrs. Each Participant received one set of IntuitIV Launch Pack on their way out.
The following day, Dr Murphy was brought to Changi General Hospital through their Infection Control Department to speak again on “How Safety Engineered Medical Devices Make Healthcare Safer”. Before the lecture, hands-on workshops were held outside of the lecture hall for participants to learn about Smith’s Jelco IntuitIV and the whole range of Jelco safety devices while lunch was served. The lecture started at 1300hrs with 100 in attendance from both nursing & medical departments. The event came to an official close at 1430hrs.
