ALOR STAR: About 200 units of blood-types A, AB, B and O are needed daily in Kedah to meet the needs of patients, especially those involving emergency cases.
Alor Star's Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital haematologist Dr Hafizah Hashim said the hospital, which was currently experiencing blood shortage, needed the supply to treat patients suffering from thalassemia, leukaemia, obstetrics and victims of road accidents.
"The blood we take from donors can only be kept for 35 to 42 days, and is thus, inadequate to meet current needs."
She urged the public to go to the scheduled blood donation locations to donate blood.
The locations are Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani, Kulim Hospital, Jitra Hospital, Kuala Nerang Hospital, Sik Hospital, Yan Hospital, Baling Hospital and Langkawi Hospital.
Blood donation exercise is conducted from Sunday to Wednesday from 8am to 5pm, and on Thursday from 8am to 3.30pm. Bernama
