JOHOR BARU: A government and non-governmental organisation (NGO) partnership will spearhead the opening of three more School-in-Hospital (SDH) programmes under its third phase of implementation.
SDH is a nationwide collaborative effort by the Education Ministry, Health Ministry and Hati Nurani, a committee under Nurul Yaqeen Foundation, an education NGO formed in July 2011.
The deputy prime minister's wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, who is Hati Nurani patron, said the hospitals taking part in the third phase were Muar Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, Sarawak General Hospital, and Sabah Children and Women Hospital (Hospital Likas).
"The third phase is still in the planning stage and could be implemented by April," she said during the launch of SDH at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), here.
Yesterday, HSA became the seventh SDH. It was launched by the Sultan of Johor's consort, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah.
Noorainee said 10,500 pupils were taught by 53 teachers under the SDH over the past year. SDH provides education to children who miss school while under treatment.
"SDH has furniture, books, laptops and IBM Kid Smart Early Learning Programme equipment for pupils opting to learn in a classroom environment instead of being taught by teachers from their beds."
