LIMBANG: Limbang Hospital has been selected to be upgraded into a specialist hospital, to provide world class medical services to the people.
Its director, Dr Nurliza Jusoh said the proposal to that effect had been approved under the 10th Malaysia plan and works on the project would be carried out in stages.
“We give priority to gynaecology and obstetrics facilities and specialists, apart from radiology facilities and specialists,” she said when met by reporters yesterday during the visit of Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah.
She said funds for radiology facilities and specialists had been approved and works on the project would start next year.
Currently, patients requiring such services had to be sent to Miri Hospital or the local private specialist centre.
Dr Nurliza added that facilities costing RM800,000 for newly born babies like incubators and breathing aids have also been made available, at the children’s ward.
“We are still awaiting funds so that these facilities could be placed in a special ward, that need specialists to operate,” adding that currently three staff had been trained to do the maintenance.
Meanwhile, Hasbi said problems on the lack of medical facilities and specialists at Limbang Hospital had been brought up in parliament.
“This matter had been voiced in parliament, because we know the problems of having to send patients to Miri Hospital for treatment.
“The Barisan Nasional government is always sensitive to the needs of the people and this resulted in the recent placement of two specialists at Limbang Hospital,” he noted.
