IPOH: Enraged by a transfer order to another unit at the Taiping Hospital, a man grabbed a machete and ran amok, attacking the hospital director at its premises this morning.
The frenzied assailant hacked Dr Mohd Yassim Abdul Rahman repeatedly on the head, hands and abdomen as the victim cowered helplessly at the hospital's Department of Imaging and Diagnostics about 11.20am.
As the attack continued, Dr Mohd Yassim collapsed in a pool of blood before the 53-year-old armed man fled from the hospital.
The director was warded at the Selayang Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Taiping CID chief DSP Leong Wen Yew said, initial investigations revealed the attack on the director was fuelled by a transfer order which the alleged assailant had received.
He said, when Dr Mohd Yassim asked the man to vacate his office and report at the new unit, he was attacked with a machete.
