Salute to staff at Sg Buloh Hospital Ward 5c

ALL my life, I have heard many horror stories about government hospitals and was sceptical of their professionalism until my recent experience at Sungai Buloh Hospital’s Ward 5C. The professionalism shown by their specialists, especially En Shukri and Ms Hashimah, medical officers such as Dr Chua and Dr Herma, the housemen and not forgetting the overworked nurses towards my family and I is beyond description. They have made my stay very bearable (almost like my second home) and kept me in high spirits.

A big thank you to all for the pre, during and post operation care, love and kindness to this 80-year old man. People look out of the window and watch the world go by, while I sat on my Bed 11 (my good luck bed) watching all of you go about diligently looking after all the patients.

I enjoyed myself so much that I refused to be upgraded to an individual room several times. I love all the dropping-by with big smiles from all of you (regardless of whether I am your patient or not) just to say Hello, Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening, and to find out how I am doing? That made my day!

I had my sad days too but some of you will come by to give positive encouragement. And there were times when I made unorthodox requests (and we had a good laugh at them) such as whether I can go home to vote, whether I can go home early etc. And every time a big group of you drop by to discuss my condition, I would try my luck, asking “When can I go home?” to the point where some of you would say “I know what Uncle Thomas is going to ask” even before reaching my bed. Of course the standard answer is “In due time when the wound looks good”.

I am very impressed by the strong leadership and good example shown to the staff by Ms Hashimah who is always willing to teach and guide. To all patients, she is always compassionate and patience. And thank you, Dr Chua for your little prayer during my operation.

Keep up the good work all of you ‘Florence Nightingales’ at Ward 5C, and also SOPD. May God bless each and every one of you. Thank you again.
