Malaysia continues its medical goodwill quest in Chittagong

Chittagong, 10th January - The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) under the Ministry of Health Malaysia continues its medical goodwill quest by offering more Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Continuous Medical Education (CME) programmes in Bangladesh. Renowned speakers from the Malaysia health industry and Specialists in the fields of Cardiothoracic and Orthopaedic are here at the Chittagong Medical College, Chittagong Club and at the Cox's Bazaar from the 10th - 13th of January offering numerous health talks and health programmes.

Dr Mary Wong, CEO of MHTC informed that seven (7) renowned hospitals from Malaysia had been giving free health consultations and health talks at different hospitals within Dhaka every fortnight since August 2012 as part of their CSR and CME programmes. "This year we have an additional two (2) new hospitals who are offering the same in Chittagong", she further commented. The 2 main areas of specialities that will be covered during this trip are on Cardiothoracic and Orthopaedic.

Adding on, with the recent set-up of its representative office in Dhaka, the Malaysia Healthcare Service Ltd (MHSL), MHSL is all set to provide a faster link for Bangladesh healthcare travellers seeking treatment in Malaysia. The MHSL office which is addressed at the Ataturk Tower at Banani, Dhaka is operational from Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am to 5.30pm and is headed by a dedicated medical doctor from Bangladesh. Amongst others, the role of MHSL is to provide consultation, facilitate inquiries on medical treatment, provide price ranges, give information about the hospitals in Malaysia as well as secure medical appointments with the hospitals concerned. Last month MHSL expanded its scope of services to even assist patients with ticketing, hotel information and visa arrangements. MHSL is the ONE-STOP-CENTRE to help facilitate and assist patients intending to seek healthcare treatment in Malaysia. In 2010, Malaysia recorded 393,000 healthcare tourists and in 2011 there were 583,000. The number of healthcare travellers from Bangladesh to Malaysia increased from 3,332 in year 2010 to 5,071 in year 2011 giving a total of approximately 52% increment. As for year 2012 in comparison to year 2011, there was an increment of more than 100% of healthcare travellers coming in from January to November 2012 with 10,222 healthcare travellers. Some of the popular treatment and procedures sought by these healthcare travellers include orthopaedic procedures like knee and hip replacement, angioplasty, oncology, In-Vitro Fertilization, cardiology, plastic and reconstructive surgery and health screening.
