Steam Turbines to Generate Power in the Philippines and Thailand

Jebsen & Jessen Technology – Energy celebrated a successful year after winning two large orders in the last quarter of 2012. The first was a contract for a 35MW steam turbine for Thailand’s leading sugar mill, Khon Kaen Sugar Power Plant (KKSPP).

Mr Panuwat Chaikead, Project Sales Manager, said: “According to Thailand’s government data, the agriculture industry generates 49 billion tonnes of crop waste per year: which is enough to provide 50% of the annual energy use in Thailand. With strong technological support and service collaboration with our colleagues from Malaysia, we look forward to further developing the potential of biomass power projects in Thailand.”

The second contract to round off 2012 was awarded by Jose 1 Power Corporation, to build a new 12MW rice husk biomass power plant in San Jose, Philippines. The new plant is the first biomass project to be launched since the Philippine government issued a new feed-in-tariff rate in July 2012. The project will include supplying engineering and procurement services along with the supervision of a 12MW NG Metalurgica, HC800 steam turbine installation.

Mr Steve Ng, General Manager at Jebsen & Jessen Technology – Energy, explains: “Our turbines were chosen for this project because of our track record in renewable energy plant applications around the region. In addition to previous projects for biomass plants we’ve also provided a turbine for La Suerte rice mill, also in the Philippines, under the EC-ASEAN Cogen Scheme."
