Nurses at the Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (PHKL) shared a unique set of strategies for improving quality service in the healthcare industry.
The hospital’s nursing community reveals what they call 10 for 10 formula, which enumerates 10 principles or best practices that have an end goal of winning the trust of at least 10 patients a day.
It is adopted by the hospital to complement the Awards for Nursing Excellence citation it accords to nurses who have successfully implemented the formula. The Nurses of PHKL were also recognised for their exceptional contributions during the year. For this year’s citation, the criteria will be based on this year’s theme: “Closing the Gap: the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)”. This covers reducing child mortality; improving maternal health; and combat HIV/ AIDS and other diseases.
According to an earlier report, Pantai Holdings Bhd chairman Datuk Khairil Anuar Abdullah said that nursing care is the future of healthcare in Malaysia.
He said that the nursing community today is delivering high quality patient care and medical services by actively participating in quality benchmarking exercises such as the Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation USA, alongside the Malaysian Healthcare Accreditation Standards (MSQH).
The JCI Accreditation is a prestigious global accreditation with stringent process covering more than 360 standards for different hospital procedures and over 1,000 variables. The accreditation process involves a five-day detailed inspection by three experienced JCI auditors.
PHKL has secured the accreditation for a second consecutive term after thorough evaluation of its hospital facility and staff, policies and procedures, patient records, case reviews by consultants and functions of the nurses.
Khairil said that during the JCI evaluation for a Gold Seal of Approval accreditation, the hospital’s nurses competently showed that they deserve to covet such approval by a global authority on high safety standards in healthcare. The future of Malaysian Healthcare Industry and Medical Tourism will largely depend on patient care delivery by the nursing community, he added.
PHKL has recently recognised Senior Staff Nurse Zuriah Azhari from Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Staff Nurse Lee Soon Chai from Delivery Suite as well as Senior Staff Nurse Low Sing Joe from Pantai Cancer Institute which is one of the Centre Of Excellence, for their conduct of Best Nursing Care Practice.
Last June, the hospital has also been awarded – for the second time around - with Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Gold Award for the Private Hospital Category in Malaysia 2012.
According to PHKL, its seamless delivery of service excellence and customer satisfaction during the year in review 2011 has garnered for it the award, which is deemed as the ultimate seal of consumer approval through accurate and objective measurement of consumer brand preferences in the country.
