School-in-hospital provides education to 22,174 child patients

PUTRAJAYA- The School-In-Hospital programme has provided education to 22,174 pupils warded in hospitals for various health problems, since July 2011 to April this year.

The Deputy Prime Minister's wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman said there were eight schools in hospitals under the 'Hati Nurani' project so far.

"Following this success Hati Nurani plans to open more such schools nationwide," she said during a contribution ceremony for the programme here today.

Noorainee, who is the project's patron received cash, computers and reading materials donated by five corporate organisations.

The eight hospitals are the Kuala Lumpur Paediatric Institute; Ampang, Serdang and Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru Hospitals; Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (Kubang Kerian); Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre; Sultanah Fatimah Muar Specialist Hospital and Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (Temerloh).

Meanwhile, Yayasan Nurul Yaqeen director Nor Zanah Jamari said two additional schools are planned for the Likas Women and Children Hospital in Sabah and the Sarawak General Hospital.

"The programme is for students between four and 19 years old, who must be registered with a government school," she said.
