Sarawak gets most wound care kits

KUCHING: Sarawak has received the most wound care kits from the Malaysian Society of Wound Care Professionals (MSWCP).

Society president and founder Dr Harikrishna KR Nair said 43 wound care kits worth RM65,000 have been donated to the hospital wound care teams and health clinics managed by family physicians in the state.

“We have given away 160 wound care kits amounting to RM224,000 to hospitals and health clinics run by family medicine specialists throughout Malaysia for the past one year,” he said during the state-level ‘Wound Care — Wound Healing with Passion’ programme launch yesterday.

The society also donated 27 kits to Sabah, 20 kits to Pahang, 30 kits to Selangor, 20 kits to Perak and 20 kits to Kuala Lumpur.

“In addition, MSWCP also sent 20 kits worth RM30,000 to Tacloban, Philippines for the relief and humanitarian effort there through the Department of Health of the Philippines,” said Dr Harikrishna, who is also advisor for wound care teams for the Sarawak General Hospital, Bintulu Hospital and Miri Hospital. Established in February 2011, MSWCP is a non-governmental organisation which aims to promote public education on wound care, as well as providing and increasing awareness, knowledge and applications of effective wound care management practices

Among its programmes are dissemination of wound care kits equipped with various advanced wound care products such as foam, collagen, alginate, silver dressings, solutions, barrier creams, and gold dust.
