PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry today denied receiving an e-mail in reply to the letter they had sent to the Crimea State Medical University (CSMU) on Dec 24 last year in relation to the recognition of the medical institution.
CSMU, an Ukrainian medical university, was de-recognised in 2005 for unknown reasons.
“We view seriously the allegation that the minister misled some press members on an alleged communication between CSMU and the ministry on Jan 16.
“We have checked our e-mails and servers and would like to categorically state that no such e-mail was received,” said K Sivakumar, the press secretary to Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam.
The ministry official also requested CSMU to resend the appeal.
Sivakumar said this in response to an FMT report that quoted CSMU’s Malaysian representative Dr A Subendran who said that Subramaniam provided false information on the recognition of the university.
“I am still not sure why the minister is trying to mislead the public on this recognition matter,” Subendran had said yesterday.
During a press conference with Tamil newspapers’ chief editors, Subramaniam had said that his ministry had sent a letter to the university on Dec 24, asking CSMU to re-appeal or submit a fresh application for recognition.
He also stressed that the medical school has yet to reply to their letter.
Nevertheless, a CSMU official said that the university had responded to the ministry on Jan 16.
“We sent our reply to the minister’s official e-mail,” said the CSMU official.
