Kuching (6 November 2013) – Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad (EXIM Bank) has extended its network by opening another Representative Office in Kuching, Sarawak – making it the third EXIM Bank’s Representative Office in Malaysia. Strategically located in the city centre, the Representative Office will offer the entire range of EXIM Bank’s products and services to the business communities in Sarawak. The expansion is part of the Bank’s strategic business initiative to fulfill its mandate in supporting local business going abroad.
The Representative Office located in Jalan Tun Jugah was officially declared open by YB Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Minister of Finance (II) and Minister of Local Government and Community Development representing The Right Honourable Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister of Sarawak. The event was followed by a seminar on trade and business opportunities conducted by EXIM Bank.
Speaking at the opening of the Representative Office, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud welcomed the decision by EXIM Bank to open a representative office in Kuching to take advantage of Sarawak’s robust economic activities.
“This is certainly very timely and I believe EXIM Bank can play a significant role in helping our local businesses to grow,” he said.
Dato’ Adissadikin Ali, President/Chief Executive Officer of EXIM Bank said the opening ceremony today marked yet another initiative by the Bank to bring its products and services closer to the EXIM Bank’s customers as well as potential customers.
“We are excited with our presence in Sarawak where economic activities are vibrant and thriving. We see a lot of potential in Sarawak and the neighboring areas as well. We want to provide individual and businesses here easy access globally,” he added.
When EXIM Bank began operations as a full-fledged Development Financial Institution in August 1995, it opened its first representative office in Johor Bahru in 2009. Subsequently, it opened another representative office in Seberang Jaya, Pulau Pinang in 2010. Opening hours will be from 8.30am to 5.30pm from Mondays to Thursdays and from 8.30am to 4.30pm on Fridays. It will be closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
