TNT EXPRESS Malaysia, a global express service provider, is the first express delivery and logistics company in Malaysia to secure the Goods Distribution Practice for Medical Devices (GDPMD) certification from Malaysia’s Medical Device Authority, providing highly specialised distribution solutions with its fully equipped Med Tech Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
The company has officially launched its first medical warehouse and distribution centre, investing over RM7.5mil.
The medical technology sector has become increasingly important in the healthcare area. However, competition in the market on a national level faces a plateau in growth as the relatively high cost of research and developments as well as the long regulatory approval of products have created significant barriers to entry.
TNT Express Malaysia managing director SC Chong said, “The Med Tech Centre is dedicated to the medical-devices market, particularly surgical devices and instruments that require highly specialised distribution to hospitals such as time-critical delivery, return management and consignment stock management.”
With the GDPMD certification, TNT Express Malaysia achieved the accreditation for its operating processes and infrastructure, and ensures safe handling and service quality for the medical technology products under its care.
“The Med Tech Centre is designed to create a leaner and more agile supply chain as national healthcare budgets face increasing pressure. By being GDPMD-certified, we are able to ensure operational efficiency, allowing customers to save on costs from minimising defects and rejects when the products are consolidated at our facility,” said Chong.
The Med Tech Centre presents a full-fledged world-class range of solutions and services including Hospital Express that combines the cost-effectiveness of a worldwide transportation network with value-added services such as: Integrated Direct Express, which enables multiple orders to be consolidated into one unit for easy shipment and customs clearance; and Urgent Hand Carry fulfilment for critical cases, delivery and collection in all hospitals in Malaysia and other specialised offerings.
The new Med Tech Division is the fastest growing contributor in the company’s total revenue stream. TNT Express Malaysia plans to increase this number in the coming years with the expansion of its current facility to cater to an even greater capacity.
The Med Tech adds a valuable asset to the worldwide network provider, expanding its services and ensuring seamless interconnectivity between countries that encourages the efficient movement of medical devices, ultimately contributing to a progressive growth of the nation’s medical R&D sectors.
