Kajang Hospital To Undergo Upgrade

KAJANG: The Kajang Hospital, which now serves 1.1 million residents in town and the surrounding area, will be upgraded to reduce congestion.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the number of beds would be increased by 30 from 326 to 356.

He said an extra ward and two new operating theatres would be created.

“We want to reduce the congestion and create a more comfortable environment for patients,” he said during a visit to the hospital yesterday.

The upgrading work costing RM10mil, expected to begin by next year, would be completed by mid-2016, said Dr Subramaniam.

He added that the ministry was still waiting for specifications from the hospital.

However, he said the upgrading work would be a short-term measure as it was considering moving the hospital to a bigger location.

This, added Dr Subramaniam, would mean that the hospital would be moved out of town.

“We want to study if this is in line with what the people need,” he said.

The total number of in-patients at the Kajang hospital was more than 28,000 last year, an increase from 23,700 in 2012.
