Sunway Medical Centre Invests Rm12 Million In Hospital IT System

PETALING JAYA - Sunway Medical Centre Sdn Bhd (SunMed) is investing RM12 million to implement a new hospital information system, effectively kick-starting the hospital's five-year digital transformation programme.

The new system, called C-HIS, will replace the traditional paper-based approach of physical medical records with electronic medical records for seamless record transfer to and from the point of care.

"With C-HIS, we will introduce the use of tablet PC to doctors, pharmacists and nurses to enable optimal mobility and flexibility when treating patients in both inpatient and outpatient environment," Sunway Healthcare's Managing Director Lau Beng Long said here today.

SunMed has picked Hitachi Sunway Information Systems Sdn Bhd to implement the new hospital information system by Telstra Health.

SunMed currently has 359 beds, 119 consultation suites and 12 operation theatres, and has been offering a range of medical services since 1999.

The number of beds will increase to 600 by 2017 once the additional hospital block is ready.

SunMed also has two new hospitals in its pipeline, namely Sunway Velocity in Cheras and another one near Sunway Carnival mall in Penang, with 200 and 220 beds, respectively.

The two new hospitals are slated for completion in 2018.
