B. Braun Medical, Inc. has selected the Simatic® PCS 7 Process Automation System from Siemens Industry, Inc. as the supervisory control system for a major project at its Irvine, Calif., facility.
The PCS 7 system will coordinate process, equipment and operator activities for fully automated manufacturing lines. Additionally, the system will provide data acquisition for performance monitoring and interface with the Manufacturing Execution System to provide Electronic Batch Record related information.
PCS 7 breaks traditional DCS limitations by offering the world’s only platform that integrates new and existing automation systems (process, batch, discrete and safety) and devices (instrumentation, analytics, motors, drives and safety instrumented functions) within a single platform. The system also provides common tools for engineering, visualization and plant-wide asset and maintenance management.
“B. Braun is recognized internationally for its commitment to advancing medical technology and to the health and well being of patients and healthcare professionals,” says Glenn Restivo, Life Sciences manager, Siemens Industry, Inc. “We are looking forward to working with the Irvine facility to build upon this reputation for patient safety, quality and operational excellence.”
