BALIK PULAU - Malaysia is the leading supplier of medical equipment among the 56-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahya said OIC member states supplied 4% of medical equipment to the world and out of that percentage, Malaysia manufactured 90% of the total.

“The statistic is based on a report released by OIC last year.

“Our medical equipment supplied to the world market includes machines and hospital furniture,” he said.

According to Dr Hilmi, most of the medical equipment are manufactured in Penang.

“These equipment are of international standards and many Arab states are keen to learn from us the technology used in producing these international standard equipment,” he told a press conference during the closing ceremony of Perda High Technology Institute 7th annual ‘Bakti Siswa’ homestay programme at Kampung Jalan Baharu here yesterday.

A total of 40 students aged between 18 and 21 participated in the three-day two-night homestay programme to experience village lifestyle.
