UMSC Provides free vaccination to Frontliners in an effort to protect public health

As part of its corporate social responsibility, University Malaya Specialist Centre (UMSC) provided 200 free vaccinations to Foodpanda riders and the Make It Right Movement team.

From June 2nd to 4th, the influenza vaccines, an initiative by UMSC to contribute to society’s well-being, also aims to educate the public on the importance of the vaccine.

Additionally, the campaign would enlighten people about the associated risk factors caused by influenza viruses which could cause acute illnesses.

“Flu seasons are unpredictable and can be severe. Influenza can be a serious disease that can

sometimes leads to death.

“Getting an annual flu vaccine is advisable, as antibody levels may decline over time.

“UMSC is pleased to offer the vaccination to the deserving community of both organisations, and sincerely thank all our supporting partners for making this significant initiative possible,” said UMSC Medical Director and Interim CEO Professor Dr Vicknes Waran.

Additionally, Foodpanda employees and the Make It Right Movement team will be offered exclusive Influenza and Typhoid vaccine packages by UMSC.

“I am very grateful to the team at UMSC for providing our riders with the vaccination.

“The health, safety and well-being of all our employees are always a priority at Foodpanda,” said the company’s Managing Director Sayantan Das.

He adds that he was very proud of the hard work put in by the riders in ensuring that happiness is delivered to all of Foodpanda’s customers.

“I am proud and honoured to be working with each and every one of them. This is a very challenging time for everyone, however I believe if we work together as a community, we will come out of this stronger than ever before,” said Sayantan said.

Influenza is generally seen year around in the country with no specific seasonal trends. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends the use of influenza vaccines to prevent influenza-associated morbidity and mortality.

According to the latest WHO data published in 2017, Influenza and Pneumonia deaths in Malaysia reached 16,215 or 11.73% of total deaths.

As caring corporate citizens, the event was supported by Sanofi Pasteur, AJ Biologics, Duopharma and Teraju Pharma to protect and improve human health.
