Royal Philips Electronicsand the world’s largest investment in women’s sports – the World Village of Women Sports – will collaborate in research and development. Philips will also be a partner in, among other things, providing sustainable solutions for the centre and healthcare solutions.
Philips’ objective is to improve people’s life by focusing on their health and wellbeing, with a particular focus on conditions for women. Philips’ focus on health and wellbeing also involves contributing to developing the sustainability of society. The World Village of Women Sports has a close focus on sustainability, and the new arena will be characterized by sustainable solutions, in which Philips will be a leading partner.
“Quite simply, Philips wants to help people live healthy, meaningful lives. The World Village of Women Sports is a fantastic opportunity for Philips to participate right from the start and build a completely new and unique platform for women’s health and wellbeing anywhere in the world. By ‘health’ we not only mean the medical aspects, but also keeping fit, eating nutritious food and living a healthy life, and we hope to be able to contribute with our expertise to World Village of Women Sports,” says Marike Westra, Vice President, Corporate Communications, Philips Lighting. “We have a lot to offer, but we also have a lot to learn here. We are an inquisitive company, and we hope to be able to find the answers to many questions within the framework of the World Village of Women Sports and together drive development of women’s sports onwards.”
“Not to put too fine a point on it, you can say that women’s sport has been developed according to male conditions, at the same time as many researchers are of the opinion that women need to train, eat and rest in another way than men if they are to perform at their best and avoid injury. We are going to base all of our research and development – right from the start – on women’s conditions. Thanks to Philips, the World Village of Women Sports is associating with fantastic expertise. Philips Research is one of the world’s largest private research organizations and we are very pleased to be able to enter into a close collaboration with them,” says Mårten Hedlund, CEO for the World Village of Women Sports.
Philips will also design, and has the ambition to collaborate in lighting solutions, healthcare solutions and consumer lifestyle products for the World Village of Women Sports.
Marike Westra represents Philips in the World Village of Women Sports Advisory Board and is currently Vice President Corporate Communications Lighting.
