Company will introduce system that improves patient safety, clinical decision-making and reduces risk to facilities
Welch Allyn, a leading global manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today announced that it will co-host a live press event and webcast with St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, NY on Friday, August 27. The event will be used to introduce an end-to-end vital signs acquisition and documentation solution that improves patient safety and clinical decision-making at the point of care. Created exclusively for global healthcare business reporters and editors, the event will also be open to leaders from the Upstate New York healthcare community.
Designed as a virtual webcast for remote participants, the event will feature special guests from Welch Allyn and St. Joseph's Hospital including: Ted Pasinski, St. Joseph's CEO; AnneMarie Czyz, St. Joseph's Chief Nursing Officer; William Magnarelli, NYS Assemblyman; Julie Shimer, Welch Allyn CEO; and Steve Meyer, Welch Allyn President, US/CAN. St. Joseph's hospital served as a beta site for the new system during final product testing and has since reduced transcription errors at its facility— minimizing risk to patients and the hospital.
"Our goal is to help providers avoid situations that can lead to inaccurate assessments and jeopardize patient safety," said Dave Perkins, senior category manager, Vital Signs, at Welch Allyn. "These are errors that can easily happen to even the best-trained, most conscientious healthcare provider. This exclusive event will showcase a breakthrough solution for these types of risks, and will allow us to demonstrate, with a real-world example, how one facility used the new Welch Allyn system to impact patient outcomes."
Studies have shown that up to 10,000 omission and/or transcription errors occur per year at a typical 200-bed facility; 8,000 hours were wasted with manual vital sign documentation; and more than $250,000 was lost in productivity due to lack of access to vitals.
