The exhibition ´Through the eyes of an Amazon´ constitutes a high point in the long-standing collaboration between Agfa HealthCare and Saint-Pierre University Hospital in the area of breast cancer prevention. Together they are seeking to further optimize image technology for mammography, with the goal of better detecting breast cancer, at an ever-earlier stage and at ever-lower doses of radiation.

On October 6th, the photo exhibition 'Through the eyes of an Amazon' will be opened - in the presence of Princess Mathilde - in the Saint-Pierre University Hospital in Brussels. This exhibition, featuring the work of Marie Mandy and Vincent Fooy, tells the story of Marie Mandy - herself a breast cancer patient - in words and images. The exhibition and accompanying catalogue were created in part thanks to the sponsoring of Agfa-Gevaert.
Saint-Pierre University Hospital and Agfa HealthCare have been working together closely for years now on a breast cancer prevention program. Via intensive screening and advanced digital imaging systems which are perfectly tailored to the specific needs of mammography, they are striving to make sure that the right diagnosis is made in as early a stage of the disease as possible.
Saint-Pierre University Hospital uses Agfa HealthCare's high-tech digital mammography systems, including the DX-M system and the MUSICA image processing. The digital DX-M system makes it possible to read needle-crystal detectors in order to generate high-quality diagnostic images, even at a low radiation dose.
The image processing of the digital X-rays is performed automatically by the MUSICA software for mammography, which produces a clear picture of the zones with microcalcifications, which are precursors of breast cancer. Thanks to this technology, patients can get a diagnosis at an early stage and start an appropriate treatment, thus increasing their chances of full recovery.
The exhibition 'Through the eyes of an Amazon' wants to give heart to all women who are confronted with breast cancer. "The story of Marie Mandy inspires Agfa HealthCare, together with Saint-Pierre University Hospital and many other hospitals throughout the world, to continue the fight against breast cancer. Developing the most advanced Imaging and IT technology for the purpose of early detection and prevention is a challenge that deserves our full attention", says Christian Reinaudo, CEO of Agfa-Gevaert NV.
The technology of Agfa Graphics contributed to the creation of both the catalog and the photo exhibition. The catalog was printed with the :Sublima technology and thermal printing plates from Agfa Graphics. The images for the exhibition were printed with an :Anapurna large-format inkjet printer and Agfa Graphics inks.
