JOHOR BARU: The state government has confirmed that an infant has died due to an infection caused by Klebsiella (rod-shaped bacteria that lives in the mouth, skin and gastrointestinal tracts of humans and animals) at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
The baby girl only weighed 1.62kg when she died on Dec 26, said state Health Committee chairman Dr Robiah Kosai.
However, she assured that there was no bacterial outbreak at the hospital as claimed by certain quarters.
Customer development manager Jason Theng Yoon Chao, 26, had alleged on Thursday that there was an outbreak at the hospital which led to the death of one of his twin daughters.
He said his wife delivered twin girls on Dec 22 last year at the hospital after being transferred there from Kulaijaya hospital.
He said the infants were born healthy and were warded in a normal ward.
